The bike’s unstoppable character is further enhanced with the new DOHC engine*, which first displayed its impressive performance in the legendary HP2 Sport. For the R 1200 GS Adventure, torque was given higher priority than output in line with practical considerations. And you can feel it. 120 Nm at the peak at 6000 rpm is one thing, but the consistently higher level of torque in the relevant range up to 5000 rpm can be fully experienced. The output has been increased to 81 kW (110 bhp) at 7750 rpm). Since the Bayerische Motoren Werke has had a presence in Superbike racing, its back with the new S1000RR. The all-new inline-four is being campaigned in this years World Superbike Championship by Alpha Racing with veteran riders Troy Corser and Ruben Xaus.
Of course, going head to head with the Japanese and Italian competition wont be easy. "With this bike, we are taking the battle to their battlefield, to play by their rules," von Kuenheim acknowledges. "This year we hope to develop the bike and finish in the top 10. For 2010, we expect top finishes and commercial success."
